    The Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation

    The Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation (KOKEN) is the oldest and largest voluntary youth organisation in Cyprus. KOKEN is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO) which consists the central coordinating body of the Youth Clubs in urban and rural areas of the Republic of Cyprus. Youth in KOKEN is regarded to be the young people at the age of 13 to 35.
    Today, KOKEN supervises and guides 91 Youth Clubs as well as another 9 under recommendation Youth Clubs, bringing the total number to 100 Youth Clubs with about 10 000 members.

    The main aim of KOKEN is to offer opportunities to young Cypriots to develop their skills and attitudes and to promote active participation in local, national and international level.

    KOKEN supports permanent and periodic activities of the youth clubs in the following fields: sports, culture, non-formal education, European projects, health prevention, human rights, environment and volunteering.

    Endorsing certain social principles, KOKEN structures certain activities in order to bring the development that is needed in the communities it serves. KOKEN is an organisation which does not depend on any political parties; on the contrary, it works generally on the assistance and welfare of the Cypriot society.

    Among others, our aim is to support and encourage the work of the volunteers to ensure the smooth operation and viability of the Youth Clubs.

    With the support of the European Programme “Youth in Action” and “ERASMUS+” we have also implemented projects under Training Courses, Youth Exchanges, Youth Initiatives, EVS projects, Structural Dialogue, Partnerships, and Cooperation with Neighboring Countries. We carried out training courses on subjects such as: Youth Participation, Skills Development for Youth Workers, Sex Education, Employment, Environment, Entrepreneurship, and Leadership.

    Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation is a member of the counseling body of the Youth board of Cyprus and an active member of the Cyprus Youth Council. In European level KOKEN is a member of the European Confederation of Youth Clubs (ECYC).

    The main priorities and objectives of Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation (KOKEN) for 2017-2018 are:
    1. Implementation of a more targeted training and executive’s education.
    2. Detachment from past methods and modernize the procedures, responsibilities and roles that the Organization should follow and have.
    3. Development of the Youth Clubs activities to the urban areas of Cyprus.
